PLANT RUST

OVERVIEW

Plant Rust is a fungal disease that affects a wide range of woody and herbaceous plants. Although it rarely kills plants, it tends to reduce a plant’s health, vigor, and flower production. It is caused by a fungal parasite that requires living plants to survive. Rust is spread by spores that are transferred from infected plants to healthy plants. These spores can be transferred by the wind or by water, which is why rust disease often spreads after watering.

SYMPTOMS

The disease can be characterized by a rust color on plant leaves and stems. The rust will start out as flecks and will eventually grow into bumps. The plant rust will most likely appear on the underside of the leaves of the plant.

TREATMENT

In order to treat and manage plant rust, use any of the natural treatments listed below. The treatment selected should be added to a spray bottle and applied to the leaves of the affected plant for three consecutive days. If no results are shown after two weeks of completing the treatment and the disease continues to spread, you may try another one of the remedies listed below. Do not apply the treatment while the plant is receiving full sun, apply early in the morning or after sunset.
