Landscaping plants for every season

Landscaping plants for every season

When you are deciding on your landscaping design you have several things to think about and take into account: how much light these plants will be exposed to, the amount of water and maintenance they require, added costs and seasons. Not all of us are as lucky as to live in Miami where the temperature is consistently warm year-round. For this reason, if you want to make the best of your yard and have it looking plush and vibrant you will have to do some planning. However, we still want a design that is relatively easy to maintain but looks amazing. Because of that we have put together a guide for you with the best plants for each season.

Spring

We all know what spring means: flowers! This is your time to make your yard as colorful and vibrant as possible with all kinds of flowers and trees. Not only this will look beautiful, but it will, for sure, lift up your mood and make you feel happy and invigorated. Now let’s look at a few options for spring.

Crocus

Crocus are beautiful purple flowers that serve as a symbol of youthfulness. They have to be planted in the fall so you get them very early in the spring. In fact, these beautiful, yet strong, flowers usually bloom through the snow. These need well drained soil in a partial or full sun exposure spot.

Daffodil

Same as with crocus, they have to be planted in the fall so you can see them bloom in the spring. They have beautiful yellow flowers that represent happiness, hope, rebirth and new beginnings.

Summer

The hottest days of summer can make your plants scorch, brown and become droopy. Yet, beautiful, colorful flowers with enticing aromas and bold shapes and patterns just make everything better. For this reason, you want to make sure you choose the right plants that will withstand the hottest, sunniest days of the year.

Oriental Lilies

This is an impressive flower for its shapely and almost sculptural look. It adds femininity, elegance and sensuality to any garden, while being very low maintenance. This impressive flower represents purity, commitment and rebirth.

Begonias

The flower of gratitude and respect. Begonia is a beautiful flower that comes in over 1,000 different variations, with a range of colors, shapes and sizes. They prefer to stay in the shade and like moist, but not wet soil.

Fall

Summer may be on its way out but your flowerbeds don’t have to be. In fact, people tend to associate gardening with spring and summer, but there is no denying that fall has a charm with its beautiful warm hues. Let’s take a look at some plants that will withstand the chilly nights of fall.

Flowering cabbage and kale

These are impressive, giant flowers that will give vibrancy to any garden. The represent good luck and destiny, which hopefully you’ll carry through into the next season. They love being in the sun and require moderate amounts of water. Even though these are edible, they do tend to have a more bitter flavor than the ones you find in the supermarket.

Croton

Croton can be recognized from a distance by its fabulous leaves. They’re on fire with green, yellow, orange, red and purple. The plant comes in a wide range of sizes, making it very versatile. It is also very low maintenance, so it works wonders for those of you who lack a green thumb.

Winter

When you think of landscaping, you probably think of lush greenery, brightly-colored blooms, warm weather, and sunny skies. While the temperatures are lower in the winter, there are hundreds of winter garden plants that will brighten up your space. Also, good news: that cabbage and kale you planted for fall will still be alive in the winter.

Winterberry

This is an ancient plant that carries a lot of tradition as it was commonly planted by natives from Canada and U.S.A. Something magical about winterberries is that they attract birds, which act as pollinators, helping nature thrive and heal.

Rhododendrons

This plants holds great spiritual gifts and is known to attract us to our soul’s friends: mates of ours that bring peace and love into our life. During springtime it gives spectacular clusters of showy blooms. However, this makes a great winter plant because the lush green leaves endure the coldest days of the year.
