Ancient Sea Black Vase by Consuelo Becerra

In Ancient Sea Black Vase, Consuelo Becerra transforms the vessel into a study of surface, accumulation, and imagined history. The work’s tall, cylindrical silhouette is overtaken by dense organic textures, recalling marine encrustations and mineral formations gathered upon an object submerged and altered over time.

Rendered entirely in black, the vase takes on a monolithic presence. Its dark surface heightens the interplay of light and shadow across the intricate relief, shifting attention from conventional ornament toward material and texture. Created for the Eden Kampong Exhibition, the work evokes an archaeological object from an imagined seascape—one shaped as much by natural processes as by the artist’s hand.
